Last month…..

Monday, September 1, 2008

Ack! It’s been over a month since I last blogged! So sorry (again)! I feel like we are so terribly busy but really I guess it’s just juggling life really. We have been pretty ill too. I know, excuses, excuses……

So, what has been happening?

Well, we went along to the lovely Justine Clark’s concert and let me tell you- it rocked! It was so so much fun. Justine was lovely and played all the hits. Ruby was terribly star-struck I think…..she stood stock still for most of the show until they busted out “Watermelon”. Then it was all on. She was a dancing maniac. Whilst I am not for tv personalities and the afiliated merchandise (read: crap) and I have banned all such registered trademark stuff and those coloured scivvied freaks (yeah, you know who I’m talking about) from the house, I do think Justine is pretty damn cool.

Leo had croup in the last week, which was bloody scary. He was barking like a seal and I tell you, it is not fun hearing such a sound from your littlest one. We spent a bit of time in the steamed up shower and sleeping with vaporisers on but in the end we had to resort to steroids to open up his airways. Not. fun. At. all. I had just recovered from the worst flu and then bang…..two kids sick and one who you’re watching like a hawk for breathing difficulties! Anyway, he has recovered now which is so nice and we’ve finally had some sleep without coughing fits and crying.

Terribly boring stuff for you, dear reader, but as any parent can attest, it can be pretty all-consuming when your kids are ill.

John is hard at work on his reggae drumming book. Or should I say – hard at work applying for grant funding from the RADF. Hopefully, he will be successful. It does seem to be shaping up to be a pretty good project and I love to see him inspired.

So, things are going ok now. I think we’re back on track. We’ve been doing a lot of baking- vegan cookies and other delights. Playing music (of course). Finished up Winter knitting projects. Ruby’s been drawing and painting heaps and heaps. She and I are pretty taken with the garden at the moment. We’ve ordered the organic seeds from Green Harvest and are busy preparing the beds. Ruby has been making beautiful bowers and faery houses underneath the trees and ornamental ginger. One favourite activity at the moment is digging in the compost for worms. The comfrey should arrive next week….so it’s all happening.

We also created our Seasons Table with our ‘Nature Tree’. This table is home to interesting things from outdoors and is used to keep us in tune with our environment, as well as teach Ruby and Leo about the world around them and how very precious it is. So far, we’ve had it laden with daffodils, seed pods and other treasures. The ‘Nature Tree’ had been decorated with Ruby’s handcrafted ornaments- cellophane butterflies and tissue paper flowers because we are heading into Spring.

Can’t you feel it in the air? Our days have been gorgeous and warm, nights still cool but so lovely. Come on Summer! I can’t wait!
